Banned?

  • Jun. 26th, 2009 at 8:00 AM

I just had the weirdest experience leaving me hurt and hollow even though I thoroughly expect it to be a technical problem and nothing else.

I just tried to comment on a post, and couldn't do it directly.
I had wondered why so many of the comments were anonymous, typed my comment and then when I submitted it I got the message that I could post to this journal. that in fact I might be banned from posting in said journal.

Now I don't remember having posted anything to said journal before. The person has never friended me back, but had been very helpful on one occasion (Its a SCAdian form another continent) I mainly follow his journal because his device is kinda similar to the one my husband is hoping to get accepted soon.

Banned?

Why would anybody ban comments of me? I am not a snark, I am not posting meaness, not on my journal not on somebody elses.
Please can somebody tell me, that this is most likely a techniucal problem?

I don't know why this hurts. I don't know the person. I just wish I knew. If I ever have done something so offensive to motivate somebody to block my comments I really would like to know.

are you mutual friends?
Sometimes some folks have an option to have mutual friends only allowed to comment.

Another thought is a few years ago a list circulated LJ called a ban list. It was suposedly a list of 'known' trolls. However people got put on it who had nothing to do with trolling or any of that. I somehow ended up on it along with a couple other friends of mine because we were 'mutual' friends with a slightly snarky guy.

Can you message this person and ask if you have been banned or why you are unable to comment?

I just tried that, but no, I cannot. apparently the person also gets only mutual friends messages or banned me there too. NO, we are not mutual friends. This came out of nowhere, I simply don't get it.
Thanx

{{{hugs}}}

I don't see why anyone would ban you sweetie. It's got to be a super paranoid person issue.

Privacy settings
Probably someone paranoid about their privacy settings, set the shields so tight that *only* friends can post and he only friends people he knows are real from real-life experience. If LJ says it "might" be you're banned, don't put weight on that. You are a lovely person and everyone who knows you even a little knows that. This person doesn't know you at all. It's like me telling perfectly reasonable people to stay out of my Facebook because I like to keep it private, only this person is even more tight with his privacy. That's all. He'd love to friend you right back if he ever met you at an event. I'm sure of it. You should be, too. :-)

NOT banned
I agree with Nebelwald - don't take that personally. The user told the machine what to to, and the mindless machine does just that.

Maybe the user doesn't even know that his machine blocks some contacts - after all, how many times did you encounter questions from a program that you didn't even understand? You just click on something that seems slightly less ominous than the other choices and keep your fingers crossed that nothing bad happens.

Would the user know that you contacted him, he would very likely answer you at once.

Love, Perdita
